“We hired Jon DeL Construction to complete our weekend get away cabin. Our goal was to have a place family and friends could enjoy in the country. We researched and researched going between different options of a manufactured home and a barndo. I knew what a manufactured home would cost and it wouldn’t give us 100% of what we wanted.

I ran across Jon DeL in my research and from our initial meeting with him at our property, we knew he would be the builder we wanted to work with. When we received the estimate for the construction, we were pleasantly surprised at the price. We knew exactly what the cost was going to be, when the draws were due, etc... I worked as a contracting officer technical reviewer throughout the years, and this was the first time I’ve seen a project come in at the estimated cost.

Not only was the price right, the quality of his work was exceptional. Our cabin turned out exactly as we wanted! We love it!

If you are thinking about any type of construction project, reach out to Jonathan. You will be glad you did! He will be the one we reach out to for additional projects without hesitation.”

Project Overview

This barn style home was built to provide a durable and efficient residential structure with integrated covered outdoor living space. The goal was to deliver a strong long lasting build based on the homeowner’s plans while keeping the process straightforward and cost effective, with flexibility for future interior finishes.

Location: Gonzales County Texas

Build Type: Barn Style Home

Foundation: Reinforced Concrete Slab

The Client’s Goal

The homeowners needed a barn style home in Gonzales County Texas built to their provided plans with tall walls, vaulted ceilings and multiple covered outdoor areas. Budget efficiency and build speed were important, but structural integrity and long term durability were non-negotiable.

This style of build was selected over a traditional custom home because it allowed for faster construction, strong framing, and more predictable costs while leaving flexibility for interior layout and finishes.

Build Process

We handled the full construction process from start to finish, including framing, exterior finishes, and concrete work.

The home is a 28 by 44 foot structure with 9 foot 5 inch wall heights and 2 by 6 exterior wall framing spaced 16 inches on center. Vaulted roof trusses were installed in the main living area to create an open and spacious interior.

Covered outdoor areas were a key design feature and include:

  • 12 by 22 side carport

  • 44 by 10 front porch

  • 44 by 8 back porch

  • Open rafters framed at 2 feet on center

A white Prodex radiant barrier was installed on both the roof and walls to improve thermal performance. Metal panels were installed on the walls roof and trim using a galvanized roof panel, gray wall panels, and blue accent trim. Windows and doors were provided by the homeowner and installed during construction.

The concrete slab was engineered for durability and long term use and included:

  • Reinforced perimeter concrete beam

  • Rebar reinforcement throughout the slab grid

  • Concrete front and rear porches with structural post supports

  • Plumbing rough ins for toilets, sinks, showers, and water lines

All concrete materials, labor, and slab plumbing were included as part of the build.

Key elements of the build included

  • Structural framing built to homeowner plans

  • Tall wall heights with vaulted ceiling in main living space

  • Multiple covered porches and side carport

  • Radiant barrier installed on roof and walls

  • Metal wall, roof, and trim installation

  • Reinforced concrete slab with plumbing rough ins

Cost and Timeline

Barn style homes offer one of the best cost to value ratios for property owners, especially in rural and semi rural areas.

Total Project Cost: Approximately $90,612 dollars

Cost Breakdown

  • Structural framing and exterior build approximately $56,400 dollars

  • Concrete slab, porches, and plumbing approximately $34,212 dollars

Build Timeline: This project was completed in just 42 days. Exceeding the clients expectations. We typically schedule 6-8 weeks depending on site conditions, weather and  scheduling.

Final Result

The completed barn style home provides a strong functional living structure with open interior spaces, tall ceilings, and expansive covered outdoor areas. With a reinforced slab, durable framing, and efficient exterior materials, the home is built to last while allowing flexibility for future interior build out.

Projects like this highlight why barn style homes remain a popular option across rural Texas, offering durability, efficiency, and adaptability without unnecessary complexity.
